"The Southwest in Pastel" with Katie Rodgers 11/21/26
Join artist, Katie Rodgers, to explore the color, light, and atmosphere of the Southwest through soft pastel.
This workshop begins with the foundations of working with soft pastels: how to handle and layer the medium, blend color, create smooth gradients, and build depth and luminosity. From there, we’ll put those techniques into practice through landscape, looking at how color, value, and simple compositions can capture a sense of place.
We’ll explore techniques for creating atmospheric skies, glowing horizons, distant landforms, and subtle transitions of light, with an emphasis on developing a landscape that feels expressive rather than overly rendered.
This workshop is designed for beginners as well as anyone interested in exploring landscape through pastel. No previous pastel experience is necessary.
All materials included and all skill levels welcome! Limited space available.
Katie Rodgers is an artist known for her luminous pastel work capturing light, movement, and atmosphere. Drawing from a love of adventure, and the quiet transitions of dawn and dusk across the Southwest landscape, her work unfolds through soft, layered color and an imaginative lens on the natural world.
Her work is widely recognized across both fine art and global commercial spaces, with collaborations including Clé de Peau Beauté, Estée Lauder, Diptyque Paris, Oribe, La Maison du Pastel, and HarperCollins.
