Imagining Landscapes w/ Deborah Stein 7/23

Imagining Landscapes w/ Deborah Stein 7/23

$165.00

In this 3 hour class, we’ll begin by exploring ideas about why artists have been historically drawn to capture and romanticize the landscape and consider the idea of our own imagined landscapes as visual poetry in watercolor and mixed media.

With prompts to conjure our own inner landscapes, we’ll practice seeing our landscapes in new and meaningful ways. We’ll think about ways we might express a sense of place, regard time and mood, and how we might uniquely translate our imaginings and visions with color, form, line, texture, and composition. We’ll try playful and meditative exercises to allow water + color to lead the way and spend a glorious afternoon discovering and expressing landscapes through meditation, intuition, artistic flow and visual storytelling.

While we play, we’ll talk about materials and choosing color palettes that are uniquely our own as well as traditional and non-traditional techniques (such as layering and texture) and setting up your own practice for working with watercolor and mixed media.

Some watercolor experience is helpful but not necessary. All materials provided.

Deborah Stein lives, paints and writes in NYC and the Embudo Valley in New Mexico. She teaches visual narrative workshops, runs twice a year artist residencies and is working on her first picture book this year.
