A new workshop and a deep down dive into color and palette making!

We’ll spend a delightful morning playing with color and having fun tuning into our very own individual color palettes using the beautiful handmade colors of LDBA. We'll play with the colors we are drawn to the most and others that need us the most to create the gorgeous building blocks to make exciting, more meaningful paintings.

To begin we’ll consider the color of… colors(!) examining and playing with the many reds, blacks, blues etc. that exist and shed new light on where they come from and ways to use them alongside one another to create mood, light and temperature.

We’ll examine the myriad colors inside many of the things we take for granted: plants, flowers, clouds, even our pets’ fur and experiment with making new colors from old, creating very special charts to open a new world of color and how it can be used in your own work in amazing new ways. We’ll create color charts for skin and storms, sunrise and nightfall, leaves and moss, and recreate the colorful nuance in the objects around using colors we love the most. We’ll end the workshop learning myriad ways to paint with our special palettes and you’ll come out with a wealth of color knowledge you didn’t have walking in! 

For beginners and experienced watercolor painters alike. All materials provided but feel free to bring your own favorite colors or brushes!

Deborah Stein lives, paints and writes in NYC and the Embudo Valley in New Mexico. She teaches visual narrative workshops, runs twice a year artist residencies. Deborah studied the passing on of traditional arts with a toymaker family in Northern India, worked with NYC school kids as a museum educator at the Museum of Arts & Design and has traveled and taught alternative arts education workshops about seeing and translating the world in new ways for adults and children for a lifetime.
