Florals in Soft Pastels + Mixed Media with Katie Rodgers 08/9/26
In this workshop, we’ll focus on creating soft, luminous floral (or fruit) studies using pastel - capturing the feeling of a flower rather than rendering it with precision.
Students will learn how to build florals through step by step instruction with subtle layering. We’ll explore how to simplify floral forms and layer pastel using both loose gestural strokes as well as finer details. Additionally, we’ll experiment layering pastel together with watercolor to create interesting textures and a beautifully layered effect.
This session is about expanding your approach - moving from foundational technique into more expressive, layered pieces. Still suitable for beginners who are open to diving in!
All materials included and all skill levels welcome! Limited space available.
Katie Rodgers is an artist known for her luminous pastel work capturing light, movement, and atmosphere. Drawing from gardening, a love of adventure, and the quiet transitions of dawn and dusk across the Southwest landscape, her work unfolds through soft, layered color and an imaginative lens on the natural world.
Her signature approach - focused on blending, subtle gradients, and creating a sense of glow - creates a distinctive sense of depth and luminosity. Her work is widely recognized across both fine art and global commercial spaces, with collaborations including Clé de Peau Beauté, Estée Lauder, Diptyque Paris, Oribe, La Maison du Pastel, and HarperCollins.
