Fashion Upcycling Camp (Spring Break 2018)

About the Class: $600 (Price includes 4 day workshop and all materials- $500 sibling price)
This class will focus on reusing, recycling and re-inventing used clothing. Looking at vintage, thrifted, and hand-me-down clothing from a new perspective, we will find ways to update and style them into useful and relevant pieces. Students will learn a craft that is both environmentally responsible, as well as stylistically unique.

Class will focus on sustainability, creativity, and individuality.

Practicing the basics of deconstruction, alteration, and reconstruction, students will make updated pieces. We will work on accessories, home decor, and fashion projects using t-shirts, men’s tailored shirts, jeans, skirts, sweaters, etc.
Students will study vintage/ thrifted clothing paying attention to shape, construction, fabric, and fit. Sketches and group discussions of design ideas will help students find the best way to achieve their “new” designs.
No-sew, hand sewing, and basic machine sewing skills will be used to reconstruct the garments.

Projects include: T-shirt knot-fringed pillow or tote bag; an updated t-shirt or t-shirt dress using simple appliqué or cutting techniques; wrist warmers, hats, and slippers made from sweaters; jeans transformed into skirts, jean shorts, sailor leg, or bell bottoms, and hip packs; updating sweatshirts with surface techniques; shirts turned into dresses, or skirts; and originals designs conceived of by the students.

SO FUN!
We are thrilled to announce enrollment is open for our Winter/Spring 2018 After School Arts Program!

Classes and workshops are carefully selected, organized monthly, and kept small for an optimal learning environment.
Our After School Arts Program (ASAP) focuses on fine art and hands on education for children. The materials used in classes are non toxic and natural, avoiding plastic and disposable materials. We teach respect of our materials, ourselves and each other. Our reference materials come from books and editorials, avoiding use of screens in class.
This class will focus on natural and sustainable artist materials, while teaching basics like color
theory, artist techniques, use and respect of materials and each other. Kids would make beautiful,
natural art projects to bring home. This class would also include some basic textile arts projects as well.
We will continue our 1st series and do more in depth lessons, working to strengthen the students skill
and artistic talents while creating beautiful projects.

Projects include:
Paper flowers, paper weaving and collage, origami, mobile making, crown making, book making,
water color painting, figure drawing, contour drawing, free drawing, color theory, scientific illustration,
botanical studies, natural bundle dye on fabric, mask making, head dresses, fabric painting, stamping
and block printing, weaving, etc.
We explore artists’ work from galleries, museums and studios, and create projects based on what we learn. Using NYC as an inspiration, we explore artists’ work from galleries, museums, and studios, and create projects based on what we learn. We look at famous, unknown, local and global artists who inspire us to be creative and expand our minds. We offer pick ups from PS 84 and Brooklyn Arbor schools.
