In this extensive, 3.5 hour workshop, you will learn how to dye with frozen flowers, throw a pigment bomb and use ancient Shibori techniques to transform your old garments into cosmic nebulas and dreamy celestial dreamscapes.
In class we will learn how to treat garments to be able to take natural dyes, extract color from flowers and natural dye stuffs while experimenting with advanced tie dye techniques you can all do at home! Through only a little steam you will learn to transmute frozen dahlia, rose and cosmos into beautiful patterns, on your fabric. We will also be experimenting with using straight logwood pigment on cloth as well as folding oragami-like patterns on your garments.
Cara Piazza is a Natural Dyer and Textile Designer living and producing her work in New York City. She creates one of a kind textiles only using natural dye stuffs such as botanicals, plant matter, minerals, non-toxic metals and food wastes. She treats her fabrics through alchemical dye sessions, ancient shibori techniques and bundle dyeing, transforming each textile into its very own story.
