Thinking of Summer: LDBA away camp

LDBA-Brooklyn, NYLDBA-Brooklyn, NYLDBA-Brooklyn, NY
I’ve pilfered some images from the world wide web and put them together to illustrate the beginning of a summer plan: LDBA Away Camp. The name may change and the details are just emerging, but we know this: There will be tents. There will be classes. There will be food. There might be bees. Sign up on our mailing list to be kept in the loop.

In other news, we need more enrollment for a fantastic class being held at LDBA; Expressive Arts for Girls is targeted towards girls ages 10-13 and will cover some pretty important and revelant issues facing girls today. “Join us for this supportive group designed for girls transitioning into adolescence, a developmental phase honored as a time of exploration, contemplation and experimentation. Through innovative expressive art activities and thoughtful guided discussion, girls will learn to identify and stay connected to their inner and outer sources of resilience.”  The class will only run if at least 4 girls sign up, so pass it along to some families you know. Sunday we spent a few hours creating cards and envelopes lettered by hand. We learned how to correctly space words on a page, how to choose different scripts and styles that can be combined in interesting and attractive ways, and we practiced, practiced, practiced. Lindsay was a fantastic teacher, and we learned so much. The next class will be held on April 28th, it’s almost filled so hurry!

Saturday at LDBA we held an artist series class focusing on Pablo Picasso and touching on Kandinsky. Nikki Berger Martinez taught us about shapes, cubism, deconstruction and reconstruction, and collage. Today and tomorrow I will feature this class on these pages. From the top we have Gavino and Nikki, Robinson, Karen, Gavino and Tallulah, and collages by Gavino, Robinson, and Tallulah. The next Picasso class will be held on April 21st. Sign up HERE.
