I am so excited to introduce these incredible pieces to you and offer them for sale in the LDBA shop!!! Riley Salyards is the master ceramicist behind Roe Ceramics. She is also my best friend and has been since we were children! (Her son, Atreya is my favorite model, you’ve seen him on these pages several times.)
Riley moved to Amsterdam 5 years ago and spends her days making pottery, artwork and clothing, designing textiles, taking photographs, riding her bike around the city, consulting for design projects, cooking- she is crazy talented and  I will be carrying her ceramic pieces from now on. (!!!)
Inspired by Japanese artists as well as Mary Rogers and Lucie Rie, she creates pieces that “feel like they have been pulled from the earth, sky, and sea. ” Each item is hand made and unique, no two are alike. The two processes she uses most are Raku and pouring with pigments. Both of these techniques are very unpredictable, harboring stunning results.
Here is the first batch!

Portland, Maine- a retrospective

I got to travel (54 minutes by plane) to Portland, Maine, for Thanksgiving this year. A few of my dearest friends live there and over the years have introduced me to their dearest friends, so it truly feels like family. The weather was crisp and clear; perfect late fall weather. We drew pictures, we baked, we wrestled with a 24lb turkey… we cozied up and read books and took walks in the chilly ocean air. It was perfect. Maria makes the best food, and I was able to acquire her coveted quarterly, 3191, for the LDBA shop!

I have been hearing about Tandem Coffee Roasters for a few months, and following them on Instagram since they began building their roasting company and cafe in Portland, ME. My homies, More & Co. designed the logo, and I was so glad to finally meet the folks behind the magic, Kathleen and Will, and taste their delicious coffee. The room smelled like fresh roasted coffee (nothing better), and was sun-filled and cozy. I loved how the space was split; clearly defined areas for both roasting and enjoying the coffee.
